There are officially more than 200,000 children living and working on the streets of Indonesia, with the real number estimated to be much higher. It’s common to see children as young as 3-4 walking among traffic, begging from cars at stoplights. Although there is some assistance from the government, it is not enough to cover the cost of basic nutritional food and supplies needed for school, such as school uniform, shoes and books. Most of the children, like Fajar and Rizky, did not choose this life, but are victims of extreme poverty. If they have not been abandoned by parents who can no longer afford to feed them, some children choose not to go to school because they have to work on the streets to help support the family, earning money from jobs such as busking and picking up trash that can be sold. Sometimes these children eat only instant noodles or rice and eggs – meat, milk and fruit are luxury items they cannot afford.
On a Mission to Feed children in Jakarta, Indonesia
Our team operates exclusively from donations from generous people like yourself. Every meal we provide comes from an act of generosity that’s purely voluntary. That’s why your contributions are so important. They are the lifeblood of our ability to help feed Jakarta’s needy children.
Every dollar or pound that you donate goes directly towards the cost of providing nutritious food – just $25 or £20 provides 10 meals for children like Fahmi.
